Learning a new language

Hey readers

so at the moment I am learning or trying to learn German (it is a work in progress) I am doing this to

1. expand my mind
2. I am planning on moving to Germany for a year in a couple of months time
3. one of my life goals is to learn 30 languages by the time I am 30

So I am not going to lie but this new language this year so far has been challenging which is a good thing it is teaching me resilience and patience which are awesome skills to have. But sometimes I feel as though I am a child again learning how to speak, They say that it is more challenging as an adult to learn a new language then a child so I have huge empathy for others learning to speak English.

I already speak a little bit of Gaelic,Italian,French,Japanese,Spanish and i can say one word in Portuguese. Now when I was little my dad used to speak Irish to me and i didn't speak English until i got to primary school. In Australia its not uncommon to not learn a second language at school or to learn a language for say a year but then you have to learn it in your own time then afterwards. I know in Europe I'm not sure with America and other places but to graduate high school well i know in Ireland anyway you have to learn 3 languages English,Irish and another language.

So back to me learning German, right so for once Language and me i seem to pick it up quickly however where i struggle is writing and reading If you spoke to me Slowly i would be would probably try and understand. I learn slowly for most things it takes me a while but language is something that i have always tried to be good at I like the challenge of learning a new language. So German I am learning through a language app called memorise which teaches you through little games i guess all the apps out there at the moment are the same. I like it though because it has memory games which in turn helps you remember things like when you are learning a new word or words in my case it has a picture and a meme which is like a cue point to help you remember which to me is a miracle also there is no reward system which makes me happy because I want to learn without acknowledgement.

The other day, I set myself a challenge one of my friends who is from Germany and Lives there I hadn't spoken to him in a while and I thought the next time when I speak to them I want to be able to say a few more words to them, they knew that i was learning but the last time i spoke to them i could only say 4 words now i have learnt 59 words and am also trying to remember all of the 59 words! oh yeah so i wrote to my friend and i said some stuff in German to them and they said 'hahaha how did you learn German in that short amount of time?" and i said "through an app" I then said "are you impressed?" and they said "very"

but everyday I am learning a little per day the plan is not to be fluent in German but to understand so that when i eventually go to Germany I will be able to say a few words even if its just ein bisschen because to haben verstechen. because Knowledge is powerful in small doses.

cheers
