If you grow up on social media do you know your true identity Part 1
Hey Readers
So being a millennial and with everything being on the interwebs, example what we had for breakfast, you know so and so is such a twitch! or asking questions that make no sense, putting filters on our photos because even though we loved the 100th picture that we took it is still just not that good enough because you know we have to be perfect on social media.
Ok So I am a female, I am 23 years old right now I know woman who will legit spend HOURS putting on makeup and by Hours I mean that they are sometimes waking up an hour before they have to get up to put their make up on (NO JUDGEMENT if that is how you would like to live your best life that's your life your decision) I don't the longest part for me to get ready, is when I take a shower because I like my hygiene. I also take the longest to eat so I usually try and eat before my shower. Anyway, So sometimes I think that big companies target certain age groups just say my age group and throw as much product marketing and sales at us as possible. I will give you an example, so I like to wear a bikini my body my rules my life my choice. I liked a picture of a bikini from a well-known brand on Instagram since then every ad I have seen on Instagram is one of the bikinis from that shop/brand. Ok so to market and sell this product google and Instagram has remembered my selection form the last time and now keep bugging me with the ads.
Now what I keep thinking of is not me but the girls who are younger than I am. Right, so my age group and older the 20's any age from (20-29 years old) and teens are probably the biggest age group with body image and self-esteem issues and people keep asking it's? it's because of social media, have you been bombarded with people who are stick thin in bikinis OR muscle men who are so overtly big from filters every day 365 days of the year day in and day out? NO? older generations you haven't?
The thing is, is if you had you could leave the magazine at your work and say tut and go home but now because my generation wants everything quickly the internet is a much faster way and it comes into our homes. This is how the bullying happens now these days too all the kids are too scared to speak words to people's victims and open their mouths and talk that they now do it in the safety of their home making their victims feel unsafe in their own homes.
Makeup growing up fast is all the name of the game I want to be older than what I am but I am still young that's ok i will wear high heels more makeup so that I cant see and edit myself so that in real life I am 12 but on social media I look 45 years of age. Also, I know for myself when I put photos online I sometimes forget that people who I don't know can see my pictures, I think that I am just showing my friends and my family.
Because Social media brings everyone closer together, We think that we can be invisible or that we are always on show and that can be stressful.
